About Diamond

AKA D.GEMM

AS A CURATOR

As a curator, Diamond has curated over 25 events of a wide variety including community markets, art exhibitions, competitions & talent showcases.

The events normally highlight visual artists, musicians, instrumentalists, poets, and dancers. Diamond has created numerous innovative events including an Interactive Body Art competition, multi-talent showcases, large music jam sessions, a Mural competition, mommy & me events, mental health awareness events/markets, and themed Art exhibitions.

She plans to curate more interactive events with conceptual themes for her future events. These themes will be centered around cultural revitalization & support of the arts community. Visit www.cultured-concepts.com for more of her curations.

AS AN ARTIST

Diamond Ashman, also known as D.Gemm, is a Houston-based artist who creates vibrant pieces of depth, both artistically and intellectually. D.Gemm prefers chalk pastel, but also creates a variety of pieces with acrylic paint, oil pastel, and mixed mediums.

She has been influenced by various abstract artists such as Frida Kahlo, Salvador Dali, and Andy Warhol. As well as artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat and Kehinde Wiley.

The themes of Diamond’s art include cultural depictions, issues of public concern, energy exchange, self-love, and the appreciation of nature, anatomy, and relationships.

This subject matter is also heavily depicted in the Body Art that Diamond creates as well. By painting themed pieces on live models, it enables the art to have a speaker and creates the opportunity for discussion of the art with others. In the past 7 years, Diamond has redefined the way she creates art by giving her messages a voice through symbolism or the living energy of a human being who has become a canvas.

In a society that discourages self-expression and impedes self-love and the mere act being yourself, Diamond works to encourage the embrace of every earthly creation as invaluable Art. As Diamond often says,

“Every body and everything is Art and everybody and every thing is beautiful.”
